The "Eco" Lodge has been designed to have a minimum impact on the environment. It is constructed entirely from timber and stands on timber posts planted into the ground. Most of the timber used is larch felled locally.
The walls, floor and roof are made from two layers with a cavity filled with sheep’s wool insulation. This very thick layer provides double the insulation required for standard house construction. The lodge is very warm in winter and cool in the summer, using minimum energy to heat. The roof is clad with cedar wood shingles and rainwater is collected to be re-cycled to flush the toilets.
A large clerestory window along the roof ridge allows natural day light to flood into the living room and kitchen dining area for most of the day.
The lodge has a double bedroom with en-suite and shower, a separate bathroom and two twin bedrooms. One of these can become a double- bedded room. The living /dining area has two large comfy sofas, a dining area and a fully fitted kitchen with a fridge freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer and dish washer.
The rear of the cabin has a totally private fenced and hedged garden area with a large sun deck that looks over uninterrupted views of the surrounding country side. The lodge is in a very quite location yet at the same time it is served by the amenities of the nearby vegetarian restaurant and coffee-shop which is open during the day. Very useful for lazy days when cooking is not on the agenda.
