LIVING WITH THE ANCIENT EGYPTIANS

A photographic Appreciation of

Mike first became interested in Egypt at a very early age but did not fully realize his passion until 12 years ago when he became part of a Rock-art survey team in Egypt’s Eastern Desert. The mission was to find and record early predynastic rock inscriptions.Several expeditions soon led to a love of the desert and to his marriage of the Tour Manager responsible for organizing archaeology led tours to Egypt.  Mike’s advertising career as an art director and model making background also nurtured a growing interest in photography. These have now all come together making Egypt almost a second home, with several visits a year photographically recording rock-art, landscape, ancient monuments and art, and equally important for Mike, modern Egyptian street life. In the ‘Foreword’ to his recent self published first book (available from http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/1458940) the deputy chairman of the Egypt Exploration Society comments:  "Mike sees Egypt in a way that no other photographer I know does, and his photographs reveal aspects of the country most of us would barely even notice. As a result, his book provides a better flavour of the country – ancient and modern – than any other I have come across....In this book Mike has made no distinction between ancient and modern; no attempt to separate them. I admire the openness of this approach, unburdened as it is by preconceptions of Egypt".
