Hansel and Gretel Presented by Upfront Puppet Theatre - 26th July to 3rd Sept - Wednesdays, Fridays & Sundays
26/07/2017 - 03/09/2017

The production is a fully staged re-telling of a well known story written by the Brothers Grimm. Traditional marionette puppets perform in front of magical scenery which changes before your eyes. Can two innocent children survive when left alone in the forest? Hansel is quite smart, but it takes his sister Gretel to save the day. The show takes you on a journey into the woods, where the children are led by a magic bird to a house made of sweets. The witch leads them inside where she locks Hansel in a cage and plans to eat him. Gretel has a plan and tricks the witch, managing to push her into the oven and everything ends happily ever after. The show combines especially composed music and magical scenic effects in Cumbria's very own dedicated 128 seat puppet theatre, one of only four in England.

A meet the puppets question session with photographic opportunity follows the afternoon shows.

On Friday mornings of each performance day. Upfront Puppet Theatre are offering a Witch and Wizard puppet making workshop. Places need to be booked in advance by telephoning the venue.

With pictures and artefacts, Jane will tell the story of the disappearing art of these travelling peoples, who gave women a voice in a fast changing India.
