Act Out, with two successful seasons of touring under their belt have joined forces with Brough Players for this delightful and memorable production.
Jan Kirk has been performing for many years in many different roles and places. Most people will remember her best from her years with Penrith Players, acting and latterly directing. She has also directed two plays for Act Out. It is a great joy, she says, to be back on the stage in probably my most challenging role yet.
Ailsa McKenzie has had twenty years of backstage and production experience including directing some thirty plays. With "My Brilliant Divorce" she has had to draw on all her skills as this play has proved one of the most challenging, but also the most rewarding.
"My Brilliant Divorce" has the pain and the loneliness, but it is also packed with delightfully observed humour.
Angela, abandoned by her husband for a younger woman, also says goodbye to her daughter who moves in with her boyfriend. Left unexpectedly alone with only the family dog Axl, Angela introduces her audience to some bizarre characters she meets along her journey of self discovery and finally happiness. The play jumps from absurdly funny situations to moments of extreme poignancy and back. Wonderfully written, empathetic and despite its subject matter, very funny.
This play will make you laugh out loud – "My Brilliant Divorce" – is brilliant!
